Steps-2-Success is a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching today’s youth the skills and knowledge needed to guide them through their educational journey and lead them to experience successful ventures in their future.
The organization provides students with a challenging and healthy educational environment in which the students can learn and grow and have fun doing it. The organization has a wide array of educationalists ready and more than willing to guide students on their way to becoming great leaders in their communities and throughout the world.
Through offering an effective, quality experience for students, the organization will gain the loyalty of surrounding communities, which will ultimately lead to more partnerships and growth in the future.
Steps-2-Success Leadership Institute
The purpose of this program is to provide at-risk, underachieving students with the confidence and tools necessary to achieve classroom success in the areas of Science, Technology and Mathematics (STEM) and also personal leadership skills. The program addresses three national priorities: character development, volunteer service and career exploration. The program goals and objectives are:
Goal 1: Students gain an understanding of the Program.
Objectives:
- Overview of the Program
- Address the importance of working cooperatively in groups
- Conduct an assessment of the students attitude at the onset of the program
Goal 2: Students identify people who are reaching their goals and making a difference while doing so.
Objectives:
- Compare the meanings of the terms, “hero”, “mentor”, and “role model”
- Recognize heroes, mentors, and role models at home and around the world
- Examine leadership characteristics
Goal 3: Students examine themselves, their unique qualities and their potential
Objectives:
- Students examine who they are now
- Recognize that individuals are alike in some ways and unique in others
- Put a spotlight on the importance of setting goals
Goal 4: Students begin working on the Volunteer Service Project
Objectives:
- Look at the benefits of volunteering
- Get to know the community and what needs to be done
- Plan, organize and implement a Volunteer Service Project
- Review and reflect on what was learned from the project
Goal 5: Students will set personal goals, identify barriers to success and focus on plans for reaching their goals.
Objectives:
- Define ways to make personal gains and change behaviors that impede progress
- Reinforce the importance of making intentional choices
- Design ways to stay focused on reaching goals
- Explore career options
Goal 6: Students reflect on their involvement in the program by examining what they learned about themselves and how this will affect future decisions
Objectives:
- Conduct and review a post assessment of students attitudes
- Assess growth using the contents of the student’s e-portfolio
- Present Projects in a PowerPoint presentation to an audience
- Discuss the impact of the program’s effect on future decisions
Goal 7: Students will participate in hands-on, authentic-learning activities in the areas of math, science and technology.
Objectives:
- Develop a budget for the service project
- Develop an E-Portfolio
- Implement a service project that will include the use of science (i.e., starting an herb garden)

Young Men of Valor
Young Men of Valor Leadership Academy - A Leadership and Entrepreneurial Training Program for Males in Middle and High School The mission statement of this program is as follows: To empower young males that have dropped out or who have been expelled or suspended from public schools to become dynamic leaders and entrepreneurs as a means to achieving sustainability in today’s society.
Goal 1: Provide a rigorous, engaging and authentic learning experience in the areas of academic courses, character development, leadership development and entrepreneurial training.
Objectives: Encourage the following phases of development: Academic, Character, and Leadership Development, and Entrepreneurial Training by:
- Providing trained staff to supply entrepreneurship development for young males between the ages of 12-21.
- Developing and nurturing qualities of initiative, motivation and enterprise among young potential entrepreneurs.
- Tapping into their individual interests and providing other enterprising opportunities.
- Developing partnerships that will provide mentors /volunteers who can provide timely advice and enterprise specific information.
Goal 2: In addition, the program is committed to creating and maintaining a safe, orderly, trusting, and caring environment where teaching and learning is exciting, and students are assisted as they develop and assume responsibility for their lives.
Objectives:
- Train qualified staff to provide the resources needed for student’s success.
- All aspects of the program are student-centered and designed to accommodate individual learning styles so that all may experience success.
- Provide each student with diverse educational opportunities in an environment in which learning is more meaningful.
